Furthering the Discussion on Aging

Thank you to all who joined us on Monday, September 23rd at The Lawrence Family JCC for the first in an ongoing and beneficial series of discussions about important though rarely discussed topics for seniors and their loved ones.

Titled “Navigating and Advocating for You and Your Aging Loved One”, the first discussion provided insightful information from industry experts about such vital topics as Medicare, housing options, trusts, and estate planning.

We invite you to join our discussions by completing a survey for future topics, reviewing materials from our inaugural event online, and attending upcoming events!

Honoring Seacrest Village’s 75th Anniversary

Throughout the past year, Seacrest Village has celebrated its 75th Anniversary as a thriving home, a committed community partner, and a vital resource for the region. Through wide-ranging and progressive care options and delivery systems, this multi-level community encourages and supports a life of dignity and choice. Seacrest works with over 300 clients daily, offering continuing commitment to the highest standards in independent and assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing and post-acute rehab, home care, and soon home health.

Seacrest was founded in 1944 as the San Diego Hebrew Homes by a group of extraordinary women dedicated to community service. Known as the Jolly 16, these visionaries purchased a house on Fourth Ave in San Diego to provide a home for ten elderly members of the community.

Over the next 75 years, we have enjoyed tremendous growth, from expanding to a home on 54th St for 30 seniors in 1955 to opening 98 independent living apartments in Encinitas in 1989 with the addition of a healthcare center in 1990. With later development of assisted living and memory care, what is now known as Seacrest Village Retirement Communities is a leader in the senior housing and healthcare industry.

“With every decision made since our inception, we did our best to follow the vision of the Jolly 16 because they laid the brilliant foundation for the trajectory of our organization,” said Pam Ferris, President and Chief Executive Officer. “They knew how important it was to carve out a spot for our seniors, a place where they could live out their days with dignity and grace.”

As part of the 75th Anniversary celebration, over 300 residents, families, and staff gathered on Thursday, July 25th to commemorate Seacrest Village’s rich history and ongoing success. Additionally, a proclamation from the Mayor of Encinitas was presented in recognition of the organization’s important contributions to the community.

Goldberg Healthcare Center Completes Another Successful Survey

The California State Department of Health Services has completed its annual survey of the Goldberg Healthcare Center, and we passed with flying colors! This is an intense four-day process in which the state surveyors look into every aspect of resident care, including dietary, cleanliness, documentation, medication management and many other areas.  Once again, our skilled nursing facility exceeded and surpassed the standards of care set by the State.

Goldberg Healthcare Center…..A Family’s Appreciation

“I just wanted to take a minute to tell you how much I love my dad being at Seacrest.  I am there every day and I watch the staff work with my dad and myself and feel words fall short to tell you how wonderful your home is.  Everyone is so caring, so nurturing, so supportive.  I am so thrilled my dad is spending his final days in such a wonderful loving home.  I also am so grateful for the compassion everyone shows me as well.  There isn’t one person there who hasn’t been absolutely fantastic.

The first time I noticed a particular nurse, she was singing with my dad.  The next time she was holding his hand and laughing with him. My dad loves hugs and she kept giving my dad lots of them!  She really has unbelievable compassion towards the people in the home.  She really can read what these people need and she connects with them.  It never seemed like this was a job but instead that this was a mission.  She had a purpose to touch these people’s lives.  The love she had for the people in the home radiated from her soul.   Every person she worked with she handled with love, laughter and a sweet flowing gentleness. Thanks again for all your help and support.”

Goldberg Healthcare Center…..In A Perfect World

“I felt the warmth, love and healing hands that surrounded the atmosphere of Seacrest.  I knew in my heart that we had found a home, one that would love him and care for him the way I would in the waking hours that I couldn’t be there.  In a perfect world we would have someone at our beck and call 24 hours, around the clock…Seacrest exceeded any expectations I might have had.  I cannot express how much I appreciate every single employee I met, from the woman that cleaned the room, to the nurses, aides and main staff.  It will be an impression that is stamped in my heart forever.  I will forever be grateful and honored to have been a part of you family.   Thank you, thank you, thank you.” JH

Leichtag Family Assisted Living Residence…..Mom Loved Her Apartment

“…with its view of the birds of paradise, the koi pond and waterfall, and the availability and ambiance of Mel’s Place coffee shop.  Far more important, however, was the caring, respect, sensitivity and professionalism of the staff.  The transition to living in San Diego after over fifty years of living in San Francisco was made much easier by the nature of her new home at Seacrest.  We had the peace of mind that she was happy in her surroundings and that she was well cared for.”  RD
